SDB BANK STRENGTHENS DAIRY SECTOR DEVELOPMENT WITH VALUE CHAIN FINANCING INITIATIVE

SDB bank embarks on the value chain financing (VCF) as another value driven business vertical in line with the core ethos of the Bank to empower communities by enabling sustainable financing for both raw material suppliers and the intended buyers. The VCF business model aims to bolster various sectors by providing comprehensive financial support tailored to their unique needs.

As a recent effort, SDB bank successfully launched and completed a VCF arrangement for the dairy sector. This initiative was carried out in collaboration with CEETEE (Coconut Triangle Milk Producer's Co-operative Union Limited) and managed by the SDB bank Kuliyapitiya branch.

The funds allocated under this program have been instrumental in facilitating cattle shed renovations, shed construction, and cattle purchasing. These efforts are expected to significantly contribute to the growth and development of the local dairy industry. Going beyond financial support.

The Bank conducted an awareness session aimed at grooming the dairy farmers in their respective fields. The session equipped them with valuable knowledge and skills essential for enhancing their productivity and financial literacy.

Commenting on this initiative, Kapila Ariyaratne, Executive Director / CEO, SDB bank stated "The value chain financing at SDB bank underscores our commitment to driving sectoral growth through customized financial solutions. As our first project, the collaboration with the CEETEE exemplifies our dedication to the development of the dairy sector. We believe that such initiatives not only uplift the specific industry but also contribute to the broader economic landscape that will contribute to a national scale development."

The awareness session for dairy farmers covered crucial topics such as improving cow productivity, milk preservation technique purchases, and financial literacy. Conducted in partnership with external experts and SDB bank's team, this workshop was a significant step toward empowering the dairy farmers with the knowledge and skills they need.

As a bank that always supports and empowers communities, cooperatives, entrepreneurs, and progressive SMEs, SDB bank remains committed to local dairy sector development as well and looks forward to continued collaboration with stakeholders to foster sustainable development and growth in this field.
